전시 서문

“창작이 없는 삶은 상상할 수 없습니다.

창작의 과정 속에서 나는 스스로를 찾아가기도 하고,

잃어버리기도 합니다. 

세상이 만든 틀을 벗어나

오롯이 자유로울 수 있는

유일한 순간이기도 하지요.”

«이원형어워드  수상작가전»은

조각가 고(故) 이원형(1946-2021)의 예술 세계를 기리며,

후배 장애예술인들의 새로운 세계를 소개하는 자리입니다.

이원형 작가는 소아마비로 인한 신체적 제약 속에서도

청동과 같은 무거운 재료를 다루며,

인간의 고통과 희망을 조형적으로 담아내고자 했습니다.

2018년, 그는 자신의 이름을 딴 ‘이원형어워드’를 제정했습니다.

이 상은 단순한 상을 수여한다는 의미를 넘어,

선배 예술가가 후배의 가능성을 믿고 지지한다는

연대의 정신을 담고 있습니다.

이번 전시는 이원형어워드를 통해 발굴된

8인의 장애예술인의 작품세계를 소개하며

작가들의 창작에 대한 탐구와 집념,

그리고 앞으로의 가능성을 펼쳐냅니다.

고(故) 이원형 조각가(1946-2021)는 캐나다로 이주하여 활동했지만, 

고국 장애미술인의 창작 활동에 계속 관심을 갖고 독려하기위해 

‘이원형어워드’를 제정했습니다.

이 상은 미술 분야 전 장르에서 활동하는 

애예술인들 대상으로 공모하여 진행되며,

심사를 통해 최종 1인을 선정해 상패와 상금을 수여합니다.

지금까지 총 8명의 작가가 이 상에 선정되었습니다.

“I can’t imagine my life without creating.

During the creative process, I both find and lose myself.

It is the only time in which ‘I’ am not trapped

in the constructed box we are forced into.”

The Won Lee Award Winning Artist Exhibition

honors the artistic vision of the late sculptor Lee Won-hyung (1946–2021)

and celebrates the emerging work of his junior artists with disabilities. 

Despite the physical limitations caused by polio,

Lee worked with heavy materials such as bronze,

seeking to capture human suffering and hope.

In 2018, he established the Won Lee Award.

This embodies a spirit of solidarity that goes beyond presenting an award;

it reflects a senior artist’s belief in and support for the potential of young artists. 

This exhibition showcases the works of eight disabled artists

recognized through the Won Lee Award,

highlighting their dedication,

creative exploration, and future possibilities.

Although Lee Won-hyung immigrated to Canada and worked there,

he established the Won Lee Award to continue encouraging

and supporting the creative work of artists with disabilities in his home country.

The prize is open to disabled artists across all fields of visual art,

and one recipient is selected through a judging process

to receive a plaque and cash award.

To date, eight artists have been honored with this Award.
